About Kaufhaus Kobold
Kaufhaus Kobold grew from the things we have found, used and loved for our own growing family in Tokyo, and from the things we were still looking for. We wanted to create a place to share those discoveries with other families.
Family life is lively, messy, funny and rarely picture-perfect. The things we choose are meant to become part of those real days: to be used, played with, worn, shared, misplaced, found again and loved.
Our collection is rooted in Europe and shaped by our family life in Tokyo. We are drawn to thoughtful design, everyday usefulness and things with a little character of their own.
The name brings together two German words. Kaufhaus means department store, while a Kobold is a small spirit from folklore, sometimes a household helper, sometimes a trickster. Together, they suggest the kind of shop we hope to create: useful, warm, a little unexpected and full of wonder.
Kaufhaus Kobold begins online with a small selection. In time, we hope to bring the shop to life through pop-ups and family events in Tokyo.
